Treatment of the Foot, Ankle, Knee, Hip, and Leg
Pain in the leg is a common experience that many people will experience during their lifetime. You may experience a sharp sensation or a persistent dull pain. As we get older, our joints may deteriorate, making mobility difficult and even standing painful. Overuse may cause sprains, very common amongst athletes in the ankle and knee. Without proper treatment, leg conditions can persist, nagging you long term and limiting your capabilities in both competition and everyday living.
Why is Physical Therapy Important for Leg Conditions?
When it comes to the treatment of your legs, physical therapy is key in maintaining and enjoying peak health throughout your body. While some injuries may go away with time and be treated with over-the-counter medication, many have multiple factors that might prevent a return to full health due to the leg’s foundational role in your movement. Consider the following scenarios and the role that physiotherapists may take.
- After surgery on a leg, our body will tend to favor the unaffected limb, causing instability and weakness. This can also lead to increased chances of falling and chronic pain in your back. A physiotherapist can take you through strengthening exercises, techniques to improve your balance, and manual therapy to help accelerate recovery.
- High-grade sprains can leave you in a great deal of pain and reduce your ability to perform. Your body may be more prone now to reinjuring the damaged tendon. A physiotherapist will be able to monitor your injury as it recovers, assist you in proper stretching to maintain or improve flexibility, and teach you how to tend to your sprained ligaments at home.
- Your back and right hip are consistently sore because, unbeknownst to you, your leg is slightly longer than the other. A biomechanical assessment would reveal this physical trait, after which a physiotherapist might recommend orthotics or other alternatives to improve your gait.
- You’re having difficulty exercising because your leg is cramping up too easily and muscles are getting sore. A physiotherapist can put you on a fitness regimen to safely and efficiently improve your endurance, flexibility, and strength, helping you overcome your roadblock.
No matter what your current goal is physically, Evolution will be there to help you recover and prevent further issues down the road. Contact us today to discuss what you want to achieve!
