Functional Movement Screening
If you’re an athlete or someone who is starting a new sports program, you may have heard of a Functional Movement Screen. Sometimes referred to as an FMS, the screening is a series of tests that assess movement quality in individuals who are uninjured. The overall goal of an FMS is to find limitations or asymmetries in basic human movements and help identify injuries that could essentially lead to injuries. This is especially true for participants in sports, as identifying these areas that need improvement can prevent injury.
Where can I get a Functional Movement Screen?
Evolution offers Function Movement Screens at all of our locations. You will work with a physical therapist during your assessment, and he or she will go over the results of your testing after you’ve completed your FMS.
What is a Functional Movement Screen?
A functional movement screen consists of various tests that help your physical therapist assess your quality of movement. Tests may include exercises like the Overhead Squat, In-line Lunge, Prone Press Up, Hurdle Step, and other evaluations focusing on body parts such as shoulders, spine, hips, knees, or ankles.
