Evolution Physical Therapy at Vitality 5K
Last month, our team from Evolution Physical Therapy was honored to participate in the Vitality 5K hosted by the Parkinson Association of the Rockies. Watching hundreds of individuals with Parkinson’s disease, care partners, family members, healthcare providers, and supporters gather together was a powerful reminder of something we see every week in the clinic:
“Movement is important. Community is transformative.“
When people think about exercise for Parkinson’s disease, they often focus on the physical benefits, and for good reason. Research consistently shows that regular exercise can improve balance, walking, strength, mobility, and overall quality of life. Exercise is one of the most powerful tools we have for helping people maintain independence and function.
But there is another ingredient that is just as important and often overlooked: connection.
Working out alongside others who understand the challenges and victories of living with Parkinson’s creates something special. A group environment provides encouragement on difficult days, accountability to keep showing up, and opportunities to celebrate progress together.
Whether it’s sharing a laugh between exercises, cheering each other through a challenging boxing drill, or simply knowing you’re not alone, these moments matter.
Punching for Parkinson’s at Evolution PT
At Evolution Physical Therapy, we’ve seen firsthand how much energy and motivation can come from exercising in a group. That’s one of the reasons we created Punching for Parkinson’s, our weekly group exercise class designed specifically for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease.
Each Wednesday, participants come together to work on large-amplitude movements, balance, strength, coordination, agility, and boxing-inspired exercises. Yes, we work hard, but we also laugh, encourage one another, and build community. Beyond exercise, the goal is to create a space where people can challenge themselves, support each other, and leave feeling stronger than when they arrived.
The work of organizations like the Parkinson Association of the Rockies makes these connections possible on a much larger scale. Through support groups, educational programming, exercise opportunities, advocacy efforts, and events like the Vitality 5K, PAR helps create a vibrant Parkinson’s community throughout Colorado and beyond.
As healthcare providers, we’re reminded that meaningful progress happens when clinics, community organizations, care partners, and individuals living with Parkinson’s all work together. No single person or organization can do it alone.
The Vitality 5K was a wonderful celebration of that collaborative spirit, and we’re grateful to PAR for continuing to bring people together in support of this incredible community.
